Writing to Writer to Something I Never Thought I Would Be

How Embarrassing
Imagine 8 year old me sitting in front of my mom and 2nd grade teacher. I thought for sure I was grounded. Why else would I be here meeting with my teacher? My mom taught me that we do not lie, and that lying was bad. This was law to my little brain, so much so that I would not write made up stories. Made up stories were not telling the truth. So, there I was sitting in a parent teacher conference waiting for my doom, only for my mom to turn towards me smiling, like she was holding back a laugh. I was then told by both of them that it was ok to write made up stories. This started my creative writing journey that I couldn't stop and Bat Girl was invented. A super hero who would fight crime on power lines as I was riding along in the car. From her adventures a creative writer grew with a passion to write stories that didn't stop for a long time.
This passion ended up becoming such a hobby for me after writing fan fictions and stories for so long. I thought Creative Writing was the career path for me, I even started on that path in my first year of college. How wrong I was...
Writing Led Me
Although, I didn't continue down the path of creative writing because I would compare my work to others and felt how unskilled I was, it did lead me to teaching. The Lord led me to become a teacher and my passion for writing has changed. Now, I want to be my second grade teacher and spark a passion for writing into my students. I want them to find something they like to write about and really learn those writing skills! I realized this was the right choice for my writing when one of my students this year found her love for reading. I happened to mention that she could write a story where she was a character in her favorite television show. That this genre of writing was called Fan Fiction, and the sparkle I saw in her eyes was something that mimicked my own love for writing.
Would I Ever Go Back?
There is no telling where writing would lead me next. Would I ever go back to writing fan fiction? That I don't know. Will I ever write that book I want to write? No idea. One thing I know for sure is that writing for this blog has really sparked that enjoyment of writing for me. So, maybe ... maybe I'll start writing fiction on these pages to share with people again. Maybe one day I'll have the courage to put my writing out there again for people to read. Until then, even when weeks feel so overwhelming, I plan to be here with you writing these pages and growing in confidence once again.
With Love,
