To say that I have had a learning experience in my 34th year of life would be an understatement. Through many trips to the Emergency Room, my doctor's office, and finally the surgical table I have learned that I no longer want to eat things I cannot pronounce. I don't want that for myself or my kids. So, I set out on a mission to clean up the food I eat, the supplements or vitamins we take, and how much we eat outside the house.
Make it Homemade
My true journey began when my mom pointed out the ingredients in the stuff we liked to buy at the store. I couldn't pronounce half of them and most of the things I bought said "bioengineered." My kids were gaining weight quickly and feeling less active. So, I decided to take action and make stuff at home. The picture connected to the blog post was one of the first things I made homemade. Learning how to make rolls and use yeast at the time felt so overwhelming. Yet, recently I made donuts and felt so much more confident in my using yeast skills. I try to pay close attention to the food I am putting in my body with my gallbladder being removed.
A book on foods that I highly recommend is the Biblo Diet by Jordan Rubin. This book changed how I ate and consumed food. Before reading the book I would drink regular milk bought from the store and get so nauseous afterwards. Well, according to the book our bodies are not meant to digest A1 milk, instead we are meant to drink A2 milk. I found a local farm in South Carolina that made their own A2 dairy milk. It was the only thing that kept me going some days when I couldn't eat anything due to my gallbladder. The A1 milk made me feel like I was lactose intolerant, but I truly wasn't my body just couldn't digest that type of milk.
It is not only food I am making at home, I am also making my own laundry detergent. I used the following recipe and will link each item that I have bought.
Laundry Detergent
1 1/2 cup of washing suds
1 1/2 cup of baking soda
1/2 cup of Epson salt
1/4 cup of fine sea salt
20 drops of essential oils made to use on skin
Combine all the ingredients, but be careful with the washing suds as they can irritate the skin.
There is so much more that I want to make homemade to keep my family healthy. I will continue to read through the Biblo Diet and changing where I can. Change is not quick and sometimes just taking the small act of changing the one thing you can, can make a big difference for your family.
Take those Vitamins/Supplements
My daughter in the month of September had a compound fracture because her finger was slammed by the wind in my mom's front door. She went through going to the ER, getting stitches, and finally having surgery to stabilize the finger bone. There were many night she would sleep with us until she was completely healed. I was worried she would slip on her bunk bed latter, because she couldn't hold on or she would roll on her arm while sleeping. So, when she was finally healed and we started putting her back into her own room. She struggled to sleep! She would have anxiety, tearful nights, and doing everything she could to stay up.

I was frantically searching for something that would help not only my daughter sleep in her room, but my four year old son as well. Through research I happened upon Hiya. I am so thankful I did!
We have been using this product for about two weeks, but my kids are good at reminding me about taking their vitamins in the morning and before bed. From Hiya I bought the multivitamin which my kids take in the morning and the bedtime essentials which they take at night time before bed.
My favorite thing about this product is that it is working. My kids have such an easier time of going to sleep. What took hours of telling them and guiding them back to bed, now has changed to us checking on them to make sure they're ok. They aren't coming out as much in the night and sleep through most of the night.
Pros to Hiya
My kids loved that they could decorate their bottles with stickers! We put each other names on their own bottles so they knew which one was theirs.
Hiya is very flexible with their monthly deliveries of vitamins, you can always freeze or cancel a reorder any time you need to.
My kids remind me sometimes that they need to take their vitamins.
They have been sleeping so much better and feel calmer at night time.
You get 50% off your first order.
Cons to Hiya
My kids don't like the taste of some of the "colors."
They are a bit pricey after the first order (but worth it in my opinion)
As a mom, I take supplements as well to keep my anxiety in check, as well as keep my body healing from my gallbladder surgery. Ashwagandha is the powerhouse that helps my body in so many ways! She is my go to lady for my anxiety and focusing problems, without her I feel lost physically and mentally. I couldn't take it while I had a large gallstone ( I was scared to) and it showed. My daughter even asked after my surgery if "I was able to remember things again." I take Milkweed Seed Capsules, Dandelion Root, Passion Flower (before bed), Complete Gut Health, and Shatavari (women's reproductive health). These have really changed things for my body especially after having my gallbladder taken out, because I recovered less intensely than I thought I was. The women's health supplement I take has helped me reduce the UTI's I was getting.
Final Thoughts
There is so much that I am learning to trade out of my old way of living to the healthier version of myself I want to be. I am a snacker and really love to eat food in general, so when I was hit with the largest gallstone of my life it was really hard to adjust. Fortunately I have been reading up on materials, making things homemade, and I have even found snacks that I love from Pipcorn Heirloom Snacks!! I will keep going on this health journey and keep trying to make things that are clean eating and clean supplements.
