Are we about to see a shift in the horse game community? As someone who grew up on 50 acres, riding in that western saddle, and teaching her horse how to barrel race... I sure hope so! I didn't really get into the Equestrian riding style, because my parents wouldn't allow me to do anything besides softball. Western riding was all I knew from a young age, since it was how my grandmother's horses were ridden. When I became old enough to take care of my own horse, western riding is what I went to naturally. Wire and I moved into barrel racing, since he needed to get energy out. He was an old race horse, who had to stop running the track due to a leg injury.

So, to see that this shift from just horse racing and equestrian riding is something I am very excited about.

Why not more games?

Although we are starting to see a shift in the horse game community, I cannot help but wonder after the production of Red Dead Redemption 2 Online there wasn't a bigger push for western style riding games. Honestly, if Rockstar hadn't abandoned the game I feel like they could have made more money then they are now. I would definitely go for a horse rancher job, where I could own a ranch house, catch wild horses, and tame them to be sold. How fun would that be in addition to the game?

I've recently joined the horse game community, after being a horse girl most of my life. I started adding games to my wishlist and I noticed most of them have similar riding themes, stories, and horses. So, why has it taken the year of the horse to change the stage of horse gaming we are in?

List of Games I Play for Western Riding

1. Equinox: Homecoming: Available on Steam

Equinox: Homecoming still has that equestrian riding style, but there is a choice in this game on your saddle and tack. My horse, originally known as Calypso, wears a black western style saddle instead of the english style saddle. Also, there is the choice to have a western saddle blanket. Being able to have these choices really puts this game at the top of the list for me.

In this game you are solving a murder mystery and the mysterious disappearance of your mother. You get into an argument, as the main character Alex, and leave the island. Your mother warns you there will be consequences for you leaving. Now she is missing, so you and your horse have to help the town, solve the mysteries, or you can just ride around to collect items for your riding club.

This game allows you to play online with other riders, chat, race, and take scenic trail rides together!

2. Barbie Horse Adventure: Barbie Horse Rescue

This one is only on mobile at the moment, it will come to Steam and other services in 2027. This game has all the things you could want! It has fashion, racing, barrel racing, flag racing, and rescuing horses! The movement of the horses and rider fit the relaxed western style riding. You have one hand on the rein and your body is more relaxed while you are riding around the desert to find desert treasure or horses.

The more you level up in this game, the more you unlock. Including different horse traits, colors, and patterns. So far, my favorite horse has to be Pecan because we can take on the barrel racing tracks together. Although, Blossom is my go to for riding around the property since she allows me to pick up two treasures instead of one. Each horse has their own traits that fit for different categories in the game.

Even though I am not a fashionista by no means, I do struggle with fashion to be honest, I find the fashion for my horses one of my favorite things to unlock. Rodeo Star is one of my favorites that I earned through leveling up. The only thing about this game being on mobile is the availability to purchase diamonds, but you don't have to purchase them to succeed in the game.

3. Horse Club Goes West

   This game was recently announced and will be arriving to our devices in OCTOBER! My birthday will be full of video games this year!

   

   This is going to be a great cozy horse game! It will include characters, painting, and archery to name a few things. I cannot wait to arrive at Wild River Ranch to meet the characters and love on my horses!

Overall, I am very excited to see the horse games that will be coming out this year! My Steam wishlist is going to be so full!
